Peer Book Review - Treasure Hunters: Danger Down the Nile
📖Recommend for Grades 6 and up📖
by James Patterson
Reviewed by THMS 8th Grader Daniel P.
This is the second adventure of the group “kids.” Four orphan kids who are looking for their parents. Many people want their parent’s wealth so they attempt to kill the kids.
I would recommend this book. It has mystery and action in one. It tells the tragic story of a group of orphans.

Book Review - One of Us is Next
📖Recommend for Grades 9 and up📖
by Karen
M. McManus
In the
time, since Simon passed in One of Us, is Lying, a ton of copycat apps have
popped up but fizzled up. Now, this latest copycat seems to be here to stay
with their Truth or Dare game. Everyone is a player forced to take the Dare or
have the mysterious creator share a Truth about them. Phoebe, as the first
target, didn't know what to expect. Maeve, having learned from what happened to
Bronwyn last year, knows she can't rely on the police to figure it outtakes
matter into her own hands. Knox tries to help Maeve, but when he gets pulled
into the game, things aren't so innocent.
McManus
has crafted another page-turning mystery. Fans of the first book will not be
disappointed in the sequel. Maeve, from the first book, along with two new
characters, brings this story to life. However, the Bayview and other minor
characters from the book's predecessors are throughout the story. Readers
trying to figure out who is behind the game and why they created it, will be kept
on your toes. When you think you have it figured out, think again.

Book Review - 10 Blind Dates
📖Recommend for Grades 9 and up📖
by Ashley Elston
When Sophie walks in on her boyfriend Griffin discussing
breaking up with her, she is heartbroken. Thankfully she has a built-in escape
as she is spending the holidays at her grandparents’ house. To help Sophie’s
broken heart, her Nonna thinks Sophie should go on some dates. Ten dates, to be
exact, with the guy and activity selected by one of the members of her large
family. Some she won’t have to worry about, such as her cousin Sara’s and her
other cousin Olivia’s pick. In contrast, her evil cousin Jo’s and crazy Aunt
Patrice’s are unknowns. Then Griffin pops up, asking for forgiveness so it
should be simple, but reconnecting with the boy next door throughout the
process makes it complicated.
It doesn’t have to be the holidays to enjoy this fun and
entertaining read. Some parts of the story are corny but easy to forgive. While
Sophie’s dates play a significant role in the story, it is also about her
growth over her time there and reconnecting with her large family. Readers will
enjoy finding out who her dates are, what the activity is, and just how it
goes.

Book Review - Allies
📖Recommend for Grades 6 and up📖
It is
D-Day, June 6, 1944, and the Allies are invading France. Dee Carpenter is an
American Solider, though underage, and is just one of the many men storming the
beach that day. Also, there is African American medic Henry Allen and British
tank driver Bill Richards. Elsewhere is eleven-year-old Samira Zidano, who
works alongside her mother in the French Resistance, and Canadian paratrooper
James McKay. There is also Monique Marchand, a thirteen-year-old who just
wanted to get the bathing suit she left at the beach. While they each have
their own story, they each play a role in this important day in history.
Despite
the large cast of character, the book mainly contains chapters on Dee Carpenter
with the others woven in. Each character and their story are wonderfully
crafted and realistic. Each section is brilliantly broken down into operations,
with notes to the date and time, giving it more a war feel. In the back of the
book, readers will find a guide to all the operations mentioned in the book.
Historical fiction fans should be sure to pick up this book.
