Book Review - Girl Made of Stars

📖Recommend for Grades 10 and up📖
by Ashley Herring Blake
When Hannah accuses Owen of rape, it’s Mara who finds her world turned upside down. Owen is her twin, there is no way he would do anything like Hannah says. Hannah is Mara’s friend, and wouldn’t lie about something like that. Now Mara finds herself re-examining what she knows, all the while holding onto her on a similar secret.
A heartbreaking book about a topic that is sadly all too relevant in today’s world. Readers will feel for both Mara and Hannah’s pain. With Owen, readers will find themselves wanting to believe there is more to the story but only for Mara’s sake.

Book Review - None of the Above

📖Recommend for Grades 9 and up📖
by I.W. Gregorio
For high school senior Kristin, life wasn't perfect, but it wasn't bad either; until a trip to the doctor’s causes her to learn that she has a male chromosome and she is intersex. Kristin doesn't know what to make of her new situation and it doesn't help when the whole school finds out.
Although there are numerous books out doing featuring members of the LGBTQIA* community the “I” part is rarely seen in works of fiction. This book is an excellent portrayal of one dealing with learning they are intersex and how those around them react to learning it as well. Other than when it comes up, readers may even find themselves forgetting that Kristin is intersex and just think of her as being a girl, as that is what she identifies as. Valuable information to the reader about what it means to be intersex is also included by the author.

The first official trailer for Avengers 4 is here!

It's called Avengers: Endgame and the trailer just brings all the feels.

Unfortunately we have to wait until April to see what I am sure will be an amazing movie.

Did you hear?

Did you hear?
The nominees for the Golden Globes were announced today and MARVEL got some reorganization.

Black Panther received THREE nominations, one of which is for "Best Motion Picture, Drama".

Ludwig Göransson was nominated for his original score for the movie.

Finally, the song "All The Stars" performed by Kendrick Lamar was nominated for "Best Original Song".

BUT that's not all for MARVEL, there is one more nomination and it wasn't for Infinity Wars OR Ant-man and the Wasp,

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse received a nomination for "Best Animated Film".

Unfortunately, we will have to wait until January 22nd, to see if any of these nominees become winners but thankfully we have the release of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse to hold us over.

Audio books are great for long car rides, walking to school, or when you just want somebody else to read a story to you. Miss. Amanda is a HUGE fan of audio books and often finds herself listening to them via the Libby app on her iPhone. What's great is that it's a free app. and borrowing the audio books are also free through National Digital Doorway as long as you have a valid library card.
Check out a complete list of the audio books featured in Miss. Amanda's display this month by clicking here. Click on the titles to see if it is currently available through National Digital Doorway. You can also pop in and see the display in person and pick up an annotated brochure.
