Life isn't easy for Moss
being a black gay teen who has panic attacks. Life seems to be getting better
after he meets Javier, and a mutual interest begins. When metal detectors and a
police presence are brought to Moss's school he and his friends are outraged.
They decide to protest these changes, with help from the community. A protest
gone wrong leads to even more hurt and even death.
Parts of this story may
anger and frustrate readers, but in a way that this book should as many actions
that take place in this book are unjust. Teens who feel the actions of Moss,
his friends and community are a little out there should remember those taken by
the students of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.
